In fact there have been 43800000000000 Earth Hours since this ball of ours congealed into it’s present state. Though some people would have you believe that the one this week is by far the most important. I think that is a tough call myself.

But hey, as you can see there is an election on…

So before you go and start unscrewing your light switches from your walls, ask yourself, who else should I be voting for?

Well certainly not Pluto. Just like Ben Chifley’s Portrait in Parliament House, that too has been relegated to a lesser status.

Well according to the Earth Hour website, the only other option is to vote for Global Warming. Hmm, let me think here. On one side we have a planet whos temperature has gone up and down like a Spaniard on his wedding night over the last 5 Billion years, Some would call that excessive repeat behaviour. Rather a hard cycle to break really. And on the other side, a human idea of Global Warming.

A Human idea you say?

Have you not ever noticed that most people cannot bring themselves to realise their own insignificiance in the grand order of things. This has two main conclusions…

1. Find Religion.

2. Worry about their own demise, and come to the conclusion that they are in some way to blame.

Don’t get me started on the first one, let’s skip to one that won’t bring out as many crazies…

If we don’t think we are going to wipe ourselves out in our own lifetime, people start to think long term, and we don’t like to do that as it reminds us of own insignificiance in the grand order of things.

That is why we have this huge preoccupation with doom and gloom as one might say. Today it’s Global Warming, yesterday it was Terrorists, before that AIDS, and before that Nuclear Weapons. Terrorists, AIDS and Nukes are still around but they just don’t seem exciting anymore, they have lost their pizazz.

So this year I am starting a tyre fire in my backyard, turning on all my lights, (after puting all my old globes back in), and buying that 198″ plasma tv.

So let’s not see Global Warming on a “Where are they Now?” TV special in 5 years time.

Vote today! Number 1 for Global Warming. The Earth can look after it’self for a while longer.
